Lens have secured their place in the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals after defeating Angers 2-0 at Stade Louis-II on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was all the more impressive given that Lens were playing without several key players, including goalkeeper Mathieu Courtois and midfielder Benjamin Mendy.

However, they still managed to secure the win thanks to goals from Emmanuel Macron and Kévin Fofana.

Macron scored the opener in the 19th minute before Fofana added a second goal in the 74th minute to secure the three points for Lens.

Angers manager Christophe Pélissier admitted afterwards that his side were not good enough to compete with Lens on the day.

"Lens played well today," he said. "They had more chances than us and it's a pity we didn't score."

Despite the defeat, Angers will be hoping to bounce back in next week's quarter-final against Lyon.

In other news, Paris Saint-Germain have signed defender Nicolas Pepe from Lille for a reported £65 million ($88m) fee.

Pepe is set to make his debut for PSG in their opening Champions League group stage game against Wolfsburg on Wednesday night.
